Percy E. Butler, Jr. Announces Candidacy for Iberville Parish President
A lifelong resident of Iberville Parish, businessman and community leader, Percy E. Butler Jr. (Democrat), will seek the office of Iberville Parish President in the October 2019 election.
“I have prayed over this decision for the last year and I have received tremendous encouragement from all parts of our parish. We all have a role to play in improving lives and I feel like this is where I can best serve the people to deliver a better future for our parish. It is time for new leadership,” Percy stated.
Born, raised, and educated in Plaquemine, Percy went to work for Liq Liquid Corporation after graduating from Plaquemine High in 1982. After 21 years of total commitment and many long days, Percy retired and decided to start his own real-estate development business in 2003. Which has allowed him to spend more time serving his church, family and community.
Blessed with a strong work ethic and an unshakeable moral compass, Percy has successfully guided his company and developed over 500 homes, townhomes, and apartments within Iberville Parish and surrounding areas. Along the way, he has gained tremendous knowledge about infrastructure, economic development, red tape and areas in parish government that are due reform. Percy noted, “Iberville has been trapped in a state of stagnation. Unless we go in a new direction, we will see rapid decline and that is just unacceptable,” Percy said.
Being a man of compassion and vision, Percy uses his God given talents to solve problems and improve lives. His entire family has served on various non-profits, church-based, and community boards both locally and nationally. He is the Chairman of the Deacon Board at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church and serves as a donor/ member of the McMains Children Developmental Center, the Iberville Chamber of Commerce, National Association of Homebuilders, Capital Region Builder’s Association, Louisiana Home Builders Association, and the Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors.
Percy said, “I believe in bringing all community stakeholders together to find areas where we can collaborate to find solutions. As our next parish president, I will work to make our government more accessible, innovative, accountable and focused on delivering better results.”
Percy and Caula Batiste-Butler have been married for 25 years and have raised four children in Plaquemine. “I want all of our families to have a bright future here in Iberville, but that takes new leadership, new energy and new ideas to make it a reality. It’s time for change,” Percy concluded.
